t. Peter's has moved to a new location

Children’s ministry rolling in the dough
This past summer, Karen Pynes, director of Family Ministries, took a leap of faith and applied for a $1,200 grant to cover some much needed expenses for the children’s program. The grant application was accepted. The children’s ministry is now taking a huge leap forward with the purchase of a projector, laptop, and printer for use on Sunday mornings to increase the effectiveness of the children’s program.

Also, beginning September 12, the children’s ministry is gearing up to launch a new Sunday school program at 9 a.m. Karen and her assistant director, Emily Lovelace, have purchased the top-of-the-line children’s curriculum designed to teach children the way of Christ — not only in the church but also in the world — and to give them a solid grounding for the future. Children’s Sunday school sign-up will take place on August 29, followed by a parent orientation on September 12.

Holy Week and Easter
Members of St. Peter's worked very hard to reach out to the residents of The Colony and invite them to our Holy Week and Easter services. They were rewarded with record attendances and many new families.

We at St. Peter's sincerely hope that these visitors will eventally become members of our family and make our church their home.

Daughters of the King
Members of the Daughters of the King met together to pray at the property that St. Peter's is thinking about purchasing for its new "steeple church." They prayed that St. Peter's might grow in size and dedication to the Lord so that, one day, the church would be able to share the good news of the gospel from that location. The land is well situated in an area near Main Street that is set for immanent new residential construction.

ECW Fall Retreat
St. Peter's women's group, ECW (Episcopal Church Women), held its retreat in October at Camp Crucis near Granbury, TX. Judi Gugel planned the meals and purchased the food for the retreat and we all had plenty to eat and enjoy. Laura Hartronft brought plenty of wonderful supplies for us to create some great projects and Melissa Mayer organized several things for us to do over the weekend. Our campfire Saturday was most enjoyable as usual, and overall, the retreat was a complete success. For pictures of the event, CLICK HERE.

Stewart's Creek Elementary School

In May, our church made the decision to partner with Stewarts Creek Elementary by hosting a Parenting Class this Fall and meeting other needs, such as school supplies and mentors for children. Recently, members of St. Peter's helped with Stewarts Creek's book fair. CLICK HERE for more great photos.

Karen Pynes has created a brochure to explain this project. If you can assis us, we need your help. Please don't hesitate to contact Karen Pynes (kpynes@swbell.net) to volunteer.

Adopt-a-street project

We had a great time cleaning up our community on September 20. After church, a group of parishioners walked up and down our adopted stretch of S. Colony Blvd. and picked up everything from cigarette butts to hubcaps. Several folks driving by stopped to thank us for doing the cleanup. When you are willing to sacrifice and make a difference for your community, people take notice. Jesus said the greatest among you is the one who serves. So, be sure to come out and be great with us at our next street clean up.

Vacation Bible School
St. Peter's took a trip back in time to visit Paul and the underground church in Rome for Vacation Bible School this year. In a joint effort with Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, five large family groups made their way through ancient Rome. Each day, the families visited with Paul while he was imprisoned in his home, and watched as God used Paul to convert his guard to Christianity! They then followed Lucia and Marcus into the underground church tunnels, and wondered with Lucia if Marcus had been captured when he missed a meeting one day. Outdoors, they played games inspired by Roman times, including chariot races.

The marketplace included a spice shop where the families made their own herbal blends and got their feet rubbed with peppermint oil; a blanket shop to make quilts that the two churches are donating to needy folks; an architect's office where families could build with sugar cubes, grocery bag "bricks," and other materials; a food store where visitors could snack on grapes, olives, cheeses, dried meats, and fruits; and others. In the marketplace, families witnessed a shop being closed because the owner was a Christian, the architect being forced to build a new villa for Caesar, and a Christian shopkeeper taking pity on a hungry thief.

Each evening, started with a dinner and ended with an Extolla, or dancing and singing to the Lord. We are already looking forward to next year!

RoughRiders game

On July 12, St. Peter's choir sang for the Frisco RoughRiders, a double-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers. It was a very hot Sunday evening, but the choir, joined by both Father and Melissa Mayer and Danny, did a great job singing the national anthem — AND the RoughRiders won!
